Good Dog Keeping

Think about what causes any of us to change our behavior.  If each time we do a specific thing and something positive happens, then we try to repeat that action.  A reward is the positive consequence of an action. Behavior can also have negative consequences.  A negative consequence may be an interruption/correction or simply the lack of or withdrawal of a reward.  If something unpleasant happens every time you perform a specific action, you will avoid that action.  The consistent nature of a consequence, whether positive or negative, is the most important factor in changing behavior.

This booklet presents methods of positive training to shape your dog's behavior.  You must recognize and reward your dog's good behavior, not merely correct his unwanted behavior.  By molding your dog's behavior to fit your desires and your lifestyle, you will experience the many rewards of having a dog you truly enjoy.
